Seven different housing plots around Mellunmäki suburb were studied in order find good sites for additional housing.

New buildings are placed so that the open city structure typical to the area is not blocked, and old, fine courtyard milieus with greenery and bare cliffs are left untouched. Best places to build have been mostly found on the old parking plots / areas next to the streets or roads. Besides the vistas from the old courtyards, also the most important views from the existing apartments have been preserved.

The character of the new infill building type is compact; the form of the floor plans is rectangular or round. Their architecture relates to the existing, simple-formed buildings, but at the same time they form a new temporal layer to the area.

Several old, three-storey houses without elevators have been proposed to have one more floor added as well as elevators.
