Koskela Housing

Infill project: outline plan and further feasibility studies

Helsinki, Finland, 2001-02

Clients: Helsinki City Planning Department; Helsinki Housing Production Department (ATT)

A rental housing complex consisting of small apartments only was turned to a social mix of residencies: they’re of different scale, flexibility and ownership; also apartments with workspaces were added. New buildings are energy efficient: the staircases are cold spaces: entrances to all apartments have semi-warm spaces; the insulated masses are compact. The building material is partly wood, and roofs are covered with greenery.
